Last week, HYPEBEAST got its hands on a sample pair of the upcoming Pharrell x
Continuing Pharrell and adidas‘ long-running partnership, the Sichona shows a new direction for the collaborative arm that taps into various areas of Skateboard P’s work. For example, Humanrace branding gracing the mid-panel is a direct reference to both his previous sneakers (such as the NMD HU), but also his boundary-breaking brand of the same name. Furthermore, the name is yet another nod of support for humanity, and this thread runs deeper within the shoe itself.
The Sichona is all about self-expression and has been designed to offer freedom, linking back to the Humanrace moniker. As a result, it’s made from Primeknit and something adidas calls “Futurenatural,” which allows the wearer to move more freely while wearing the sneaker. Like the sample pair we previewed, the shoe is kitted out with a contrast-knit tongue that’s adorned with rope laces, a knitted collar that wears a “Clear Aqua” tongue tag, and a distinctive new sole unit complete with “Hu” branding nodules on the rear.
HYPEBEAST previously stated that adidas’ signature BOOST material features inside the sole unit, and it has now been confirmed that the midsole is made from polyurethane — supposedly thermoplastic polyurethane particles that have been expanded to create BOOST. This is wrapped in a synthetic outsole that’s branded with the Humanrace stamp.
Pharrell and adidas’ Humanrace Sichona in “Royal Blue/Easy Coral/Clear Aqua” is due to release on August 27 and will drop on adidas’ website. Take a closer look at the pair above, and find out more information on adidas’ Australian site where it retails for $300 AUD (approx. $220 USD).
In other news, adidas and Tinman Elite have come together for a collaborative ADIZERO collection.
