John Elliott Reimagines the Converse Skidgrip in Latest Collaboration
Coming in Brown Rust and Green Lichen colorways.

John Elliott has teamed up with Converse to reimagine the Skidgrip silhouette. Elliott offers a clean, yet tonal update to the shoe that made its debut in 1910.
Elliot reimagines the Skidgrip by utilizing his childhood experience in California. As such, the updated shoe centers around growth and decay in nature. Just as Elliott utilizes unique textiles when approaching clothing design, the process here was no different. He showcases this imperfection of growth and decay through flocked canvas that contrasts aged patina from oxidation. Additionally, the shoe’s upper is made up of textured green lichen and rust tones. The patterns which showcase the tonal colors adds an updated vibrance to the clean silhouette.
“I discovered the Skidgrip like any kid in California through skating early in my childhood. It’s a silhouette that’s iconic to our surf and skate culture,” Elliott said in a release. “As a skate shoe, it was instantly recognizable for the authenticity it held. The Skidgrip is an important shoe in culture for skate and in representing California.”
The new Skidgrip features nickel lace eyelets, a herringbone outsole, a smooth midsole, a co-branded sock liner and a second set of colored laces. The collaboration comes in Brown Rust and Green Lichen colorways.
Retailing at $130 USD, the collaboration will be available Thursday, August 19 at 11 AM EST/8 AM PST on Converse’s website, John Elliott’s website, in John Elliott retail stores and with select global partners.
