Retro gaming fans will be delighted to learn that Japanese gaming company Taito has announced a new arcade cabinet that comes with 40 different titles.

Named the Egret II Mini, the new machine is modeled after the company’s own arcade cabinet first released back in 1996 and carries a whole host of video games from the ’70s through to the ’90s, including Space InvadersElevator ActionBubble Bobble, Kaiser Knuckle and more. After release, another 10 games will be available for purchase separately, bringing the total amount of titles up to a whopping 50.

Games aside, the Egret II Mini also sets itself apart with a rotatable display that changes its configuration from landscape to portrait, creating a more accurate experience for various gun-shooting titles. There’s also going to be a trackball controller sold separately, as well as built-in HDMI support, an SD card slot and a USB port, maximizing the machine’s functionality.

For those interested, pre-orders are now open in Japan for Taito’s Egret II Mini, which is scheduled to release March 2, 2022 with a price tag of roughly $170 USD.

Elsewhere in gaming, Nintendo is turning one of its Japanese plants into a video game museum.
