World's First "Skateboating" Game Pays Homage to '80s Miami Vice
‘Wave Break’ brings an arcade-style aesthetic to a skateboarding classic.
Funktronic Labs is launching a modern rendition of an arcade-style skateboarding game. Skateboarding games have been around for quite a while, but not often do gamers hear about “skateboating” games.
Wave Break combines the iconic ’80s era visuals with boat grinding, kickflips, explosions and animals. Players will find themselves shooting their way through an explosive crime-filled Miami Vice-themed world, ranging from tropical beaches to techno-future cities to frozen tundras riding waves and scoring big on style combos.
Players will not only have the opportunity to customize their characters, but skate parks as well as build their own “skateboats.” Wave Break supports solo-play and online co-op and split-screen play in various modes, similar to the skateboarding classic, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater. Those who are drawn to narrative adventures will find that the game features an episodic storyline that highlights the rivalry between the police detective McHutchenson and the mafia’s Big Pin.
Wave Break is set to arrive on Nintendo Switch and on Steam on June 11. For more information about the game, fans can check out Wave Break Game.
