Lil Nas X Shares Trailer for Upcoming Album ‘Montero’
The rapper teases his highly-anticipated debut album.

Lil Nas X has announced his first album, Montero, with a trailer inspired by the Marvel Studios cinematic theme. The video begins by flashing through the rapper’s iconic looks—including the Western two-piece parade suit he wore in the visual for his debut single “Old Town Road”—before panning out to display clips from his music videos that form the word ‘Montero’ in the style of the signature Marvel logo.

The eponymous album shares the name of Lil Nas X’s song “Montero (Call Me By Your Name),” which debuted atop the Billboard Hot 100 while simultaneously receiving criticism for its devil-themed music video and the release of promotional Nike Air Max 97’s called “Satan Shoes.” He performed the track this past Sunday, June 27, in an Egyptian-inspired production at the BET awards.
Montero will be the rapper’s debut album, following the release of his EP 7 in June 2019 with Columbia Records. Last month, he dropped the inward-looking single “Sun Goes Down” that will likely be included on his upcoming album. In the song, he addresses his younger, closested self and describes finding a sense of belonging as a former “Barb” in the Nicki Minaj fandom community.
While Lil Nas X hasn’t given fans an official release date just yet, he said in his announcement that the album is “coming soon.”
