On-Foot Look at the Nike Dunk High "Sports Specialties"
The commemorative Dunk High is inspired by Sports Specialties’ legendary snapback hats.
Nike is paying homage to Sports Specialties — a hat brand responsible for the legendary “script” snapbacks that were omnipotent in the ’80s and ’90s — with a new Dunk High inspired by the hatmaker’s logo and branding. First revealed earlier in June, this commemorative high-cut Dunk is rich in detailing and follows up April’s “EMB” pack of Sports Specialties-inspired takes on the Dunk High, Air Force 1 High and Air Force 1 Low.
Unique branding appears on both the lateral heel and the tongue tag: the former location features a “Official Nike Basketball” badge, while the latter replaces a standard Nike Sportswear tongue graphic with a Sports Specialties logo hit. Construction is unique as well, with the toeboxes, quarters, tongues and collars alike using navy corduroy while forest green corduroy hits the Swooshes. Mudguards, eyestays, heels and collar flaps take on white leather for a hit of light contrast, while down below white midsoles and navy outsoles round off the look.
The Nike Dunk High “Sports Specialties” will likely release sometime this summer, though Nike has yet to confirm its official date of arrival. Its MSRP is set at $110 USD.
