Alex Trebek and Larry King both posthumously won awards at the 2021 Daytime Emmy Awards.

The longtime Jeopardy! host was awarded Outstanding Game Show Host while the TV and radio show personality won Outstanding Informative Talk Show Host for his work on Larry King Now. The children of both Trebek and King accepted the awards on their late fathers’ behalf.

“For as long as we can remember, he was always so proud to be a part of ‘Jeopardy!’, to work on a show that was based on knowledge, risk and the challenge — people had to think,” Matt Trebek, Alex’s son, said in the acceptance speech. “He loved every bit of it.” Alex’s daughter, Emily, added, “He was always excited to go to work, even during his battle with cancer. He was so fortunate that he was able to do what he loved, and we know that he not once took it for granted.”

“This last season was a testament to [Larry King]‘s love for broadcasting,” Chance King said alongside his brother Cannon. “As much as he is gone, he is with us in our hearts forever.”

Trebek and King died within months of each other; Trebek died in November 2020 after a battle with pancreatic cancer, while King died in January 2021 due to sepsis as a complication from COVID-19.

Elsewhere in entertainment, Conan O’Brien said his goodbyes to late night in an emotional message.
