Rick Owens Revamps Dr. Martens' Iconic Footwear With Second Drop
Consisting of reworked takes on the 1460 Bex and 1461 Bex, plus a custom Gryphon sandal.
Following a high-fashion reworking of Dr. Martens‘ iconic 1460 Bex platform sole boot back in March, Rick Owens has dropped a second collaboration with the British footwear brand featuring three new styles.
The gender-fluid collection offers up a revamped version of Owens’ previously-released 1460 Bex silhouette, elevated with Owens’ pentagram lacing and secured with a full-volume sole. The classic shoe arrives in an updated pearl suede colorway, providing stark contrast to the tactical zippers on the inner-side of the frame.
Owens’ eye for architectural fashion design dominates the second custom iteration — a gladiator-inspired take on the Gryphon sandal, crafted with Dr. Martens’ Black Smooth leather atop a chunky Smoke Shore sole. Rounding out the collection, the classic 1461 Bex DS model receives detailed refinements, including a debossing of Owens’ “DEEPER THAN A MOTHERS TEARS” motif along with a yellow and pearl double welt stitch.
The collection will be available at Dr Martens, Rick Owens, in flagship stores and at select partners beginning on May 8.
Rick Owens is known to be unapologetic in his shoe designs — early last month, the American designer reinvented his VEJA sneaker collaboration in a slew of statement-making colorways.
