Nike Has an Air Max 97 "Puerto Rico" Colorway On the Way
“Silver Bullet” vibes but with a Boricua twist.

Nike has often showed a penchant for celebrating the people of Puerto Rico by crafting special footwear offerings for them in commemoration of Puerto Rican Day — which is held annually on the second Sunday of June. After its plans to bring back the OG Air Force 1 “Puerto Rico” in 2020 were derailed due to faulty production issues, the Swoosh team is bouncing back with a fresh Air Max 97 “Puerto Rico” makeup.
From a birds eye view, this pair looks extremely close to the popular “Silver Bullets” due to its “Metallic Silver” uppers and “Varsity Red” Nike checks, but it features subtle design cues that allow it to stand on its own. A dark navy hue is integrated into the interior lining, tongue patches and along the outsoles for further contrasting. And to toss in ever more Caribbean flair, Nike also modifies the tongue tabs to make them look exactly like the Puerto Rico flag and even embellishes the insoles with the phrase “Aquí Me Quedo” which in English translates to “I’ll stay here”.
No release date has been confirmed yet, but it’s likely that Nike will release this sometime during SS21 for $175 USD.
