It’s been 20 years since Allen Iverson crossed up and stepped over helpless Los Angeles Lakers point guard Tyronn Lue in Game 1 of the 2001 NBA Finals, so Reebok is paying homage to one of the most memorable moments of AI’s career by bringing back the shoes he was wearing for that moment: a white and black Answer IV now dubbed the “Step Over.” A faithful re-creation of the original model, the “Step Over” combines classic colorblocking and key details for an Iverson-centric history lesson that’s sure to delight new and old fans alike.
Uppers are a tale of two tones, with smooth black leather on the forefoot that swoops onto the heel and tumbled white leather quarter panels. Ridged detailing rises out of the black midsole onto the lateral forefoot, where it surrounds Iverson’s signature silver I3 logo. Another key design point is the black tongue, stamped with a repeating I3 print, shrouded by the Answer IV’s signature zipper and secured by a small Velcro strap.
Textured black heels feature a TPU piece with Iverson’s signature, heel tabs aid with ease of entry and removal and midsoles are stuffed with DMX cushioning for signature comfort. The look is completed by two more special embellishments, namely an insole printed with Iverson’s famed arm tattoos and an outsole detail that shows a stylized version of his face.
Watch the Answer IV “Step Over” in action below — if you’re wondering what Lue is up to these days, he’s the head coach of the playoff-bound Los Angeles Clippers and in the past was LeBron James‘ head coach on the Cleveland Cavaliers — and expect a release via the Reebok webstore on June 4 with an MSRP of $130 USD.
