Kevin Feige Reveals Doctor Strange Was Set to Appear in 'WandaVision'

His removal from the show also meant revising the story of ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.’

As it turns out, the fan theory of Doctor Strange appearing in WandaVision was accurate all along.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige confirmed the theory in a recent interview with Rolling Stone, stating that Benedict Cumberbatch was set to reprise his role in the series finale. A deal between the studio and the actor was already in place, with the showrunners supposedly using the mid-episode commercials as messages from Dr. Strange to help Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen) break the fantasy sitcom illusions she cast over Westview, New Jersey.

Feige and the showrunners, however, decided to write the sorcerer out in fears of overshadowing the story of the Scarlet Witch.  “Some people might say, ‘Oh, it would’ve been so cool to see Dr. Strange,’” he said. “But it would have taken away from Wanda, which is what we didn’t want to do. We didn’t want the end of the show to be commoditized to go to the next movie — here’s the white guy, ‘Let me show you how power works.’”

In removing Dr. Strange from WandaVision, scriptwriters of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness also had to rewrite the film. Feige called the process “a wonderful combination of very dedicated coordination, and chaos. Chaos magic.”

WandaVision is available to stream now on Disney+, while Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will hit theaters in 2022.

Elsewhere in entertainment, Marvel teased a first look at Eternals and shared the release date of its upcoming films.
