Dr. Martens has kicked off 2021 strong with a stellar string of collaborations from the likes of Rick Owens, Bodega, and atmos. Now, the heritage footwear label is bringing things back to their original form, releasing a Spring/Summer 2021 collection comprised of four “Made in England” packs that celebrate premium materials and classic designs such as the 1460 boot and 1461 shoe.
First things first, then, is Dr. Martens’ C. F. Stead “Desert Oasis” pack, which takes the original three-eyed silhouette and gives it a more contemporary rework. For example, the last has been tampered with to make the shoe more streamlined, while the pairs in this collection have all been made from fine-grade suede with a rugged nap to give them a sophisticated, yet utilitarian edge. There are two colorways on offer, “Sun Yellow” and the multi-tonal “Tan Rust/Army/Black” look, but both come finished with a signature Goodyear-welted sole and gold-scripted sock liners.
Up next is the “Horween Cavalier” pack, which as the name states, adds luxurious materials from the Horween Leather Company to the 1461 shoes and 1460 boots. The historic tannery’s branded swing tag takes pride of place alongside white stitching on a notched welt, matte black eyelets, and the footwear company’s signature AirWare tags on the heel of the 1460 boot.
Rounding out the collection is the 1461 Bex Toe Cap collection, which combines vintage-inspired Quilon leather that is used to recreate original Docs designs alongside a stacked Bex sole and a front puritan-stitch toe cap overlay. There’s also a set of 1460 “Titan” boots, which again as the name suggests, are made from tough Titan leather.
