Originally teased by Disney Parks Chairman Josh D’Amaro at the end of a video presentation in April, we are now learning more about the “real” lightsabers the Disney Imagineering Research and Development team is working on. Set to faithfully replicate the look and sound of the Jedi weapon from the Star Wars movies, the latest preview reveals how the illuminated blade smoothly extends from the hilt.

The real-life lightsabers are just the latest addition to the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser hotel experience set to open at Disney World in 2022. During the two-day, two-night, “storyliving” adventure on the Halcyon starcruiser, guests will be immersed in the world of Star Wars with lightsaber training and more. A notable element of the experience enhanced by Disney’s lightsabers will be the chance for guests to interact with Rey throughout the ship.

Check out CNET’s video breaking down how Disney’s lightsabers work above.
