Volkswagen Teases the Larger Electric ID.6 Ahead of Shanghai Auto Show
The seven-seater EV will be available in two variants.

Ahead of the Shanghai auto show, Volkswagen has revealed a teaser of its latest ID.6 electric vehicle silhouette.
The ID.6 is set to arrive as a larger alternative to the ID.4 model which was introduced in 2020. It will maintain the same modular architecture as the 4 but will have more space to fit up to seven passengers in three rows of seats. The electric vehicle was first introduced and previewed with Volkswagen’s ID.Roomzz concept in 2019 in Shanghai. Predictably, the automaker has noticeably toned down the design for production dropping the original sliding doors to make it more market-friendly. However, it is likely that the 6 will share similar technological features and digital systems as the 4.
Documents leaked by the Chinese regulators have confirmed that the ID.6 will have a 201 horsepower electric motor expected to be mounted over the rear axle. For a dual-motor, all-wheel driver model, the ID.6 owner can expect around 302 horsepower.
The automaker has already confirmed that the two variations, the ID.6 X and the ID.6 Crozz, available exclusively for the Chinese market, are expected to go on sale by the end of 2021. However, Volkswagen told Automotive News that a ID.6 for the U.S. market is still conceivable in the near future.
ID.6 will join the ID.4 and ID.3 in Volkswagen’s global electric vehicles repertoire once it hits the market. The company plans to release more EVs overtime, with the highly-anticipated ID Buzz landing in 2023.
The Shanghai Auto Show begins on April 21.
