Tigris Li Taps Hankook Tire to Find the Quiet Moments in Her Creative Process

Artist and technologist Tigris Li is pushing the boundaries of creativity. Through her new AI-powered fragrance experience, Index, she envisions sensory impulses with electronic hardware to encourage play. Though the output hinges on interaction and conversation, the practice behind making the installations is a quiet one, requiring her to pay close attention to engineering.

In a new installment of Day in the Life, Li lets Hypebeast in on this creative process, which takes place across London. Going from her new studio to several stores and workshops around the city, the feature follows her in the driver’s seat of the electric-powered BMW iX3, equipped with Hankook’s revolutionary iON Evo tires, which make the journey smooth and help her maintain an element of peace between stops.

“My creative process isn’t in just one location,” the technologist shares from the confines of her new studio space where she begins her day. “It can start wherever I am, whether that’s on a drive, on a walk, or at home. It’s a constant thing.” As routine dictates, she flicks through her handy red sketchbooks, reviews the daily tasks, and sets off in the SUV ready to pick up the final components for her installation.

After weaving through traffic, Li selects the materials she needs from her go-to workshop and heads to the next destination to pick up the new laser-cut pieces making up the furniture element. “Days like today can be chaotic, but as soon as I get in the car, the noise of the city fades away; it really lets me tune in,” she mentions on the journey. The technologist particularly admires the addition of the iON Evo tires to her journey, sharing that the noise reduction “lets you put your thoughts together while still being with the movement of the city.”

Once the components are collected, it’s back to the studio to assemble the installation with Index co-founder Isabella Smith. “We’re excited to bring this to the public with our launch, she says. Just like Hankook’s tires have been specially designed with the user experience in mind, Li shares a similar sentiment in their own creation, adding, “To have everyone come in and enter this world that we are creating for them is the reason we design.”
