Focus Features has unveiled the latest official trailer for Robert Eggers’ WERWULF, offering a more unsettling look at the filmmaker’s stripped-back approach to werewolf folklore. Set in 13th-century England, the footage places Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s unnamed Man at the center of a brutal transformation, moving through mud-soaked landscapes, religious dread and mounting suspicion as his condition begins to consume him. The trailer builds around physical deterioration and the fear spreading through the surrounding community, while Lily-Rose Depp appears as Woman and Willem Dafoe as Old Hunter.
WERWULF follows Eggers’ 2024 Nosferatu and reunites the director with Taylor-Johnson, Depp and Dafoe, while also bringing back The Northman collaborator Sjón as co-writer. Eggers has positioned the film as an attempt to return lycanthropy to its older folkloric roots, moving away from familiar Hollywood conventions such as silver bullets and other modern werewolf mythology in favor of the superstitions and anxieties of medieval Europe. The latest trailer arrives alongside a wider promotional campaign built around the lunar cycle, including an alternate reality game timed to full moons leading up to the film’s release.
