Nike's Sustainable Space Hippie 01 Lifts Off in "Melon Tint" and "Obsidian" Colorways
Two vibrant new makeups for the sustainable sneaker Nike lovingly describes as “trash.”
Nike‘s sustainable Space Hippie line is bolstering its ranks with two vibrant new colorways of the Space Hippie 01: “Melon Tint” and “Obsidian.” The Swoosh affectionately describes its Space Hippie models as “trash,” and it’s a blunt but accurate description: each is made of at least 25% recycled content by weight, with uppers crafted from “Space Waste Yarn,” which uses roughly 75% recycled polyester material produced from PET bottles, T-shirts, and thread waste. Below, midsoles are constructed from renewable Crater Foam. “Trash” has never looked so good.
Each shoe features a knit upper with a slightly squiggly Swoosh, a bricolage-style lacing system and a midsole flecked with foam scraps. The “Melon Tint” uses a light brown tone for its base, dresses its Swooshes in soft reddish-orange, equips more reddish-orange and a light blue on the laces and eyestays and cools things down with navy and red heel tabs. Its look is completed by a soft orange midsole.
On the other hand, the “Obsidian” offers darker shades. Uppers are done up in an eponymous dark blue hue, while the lateral Swoosh mixes two blue shades and the medial Swoosh brings forest green into the equation. Laces combine light blue, orange, navy and green with heel tabs supplying a final dash of green style. Natural bone-colored outsoles round off the look.
Both the “Melon Tint” and the “Obsidian” are set to release via the Nike webstore and retailers like 43einhalb on April 23. The MSRP is set at $130 USD.
