Thanks to clever marketing and the touch of one Teddy Santis, New Balance‘s 550 was one of the most unexpected hits of 2020. With even more clean in-line colorways and collaborative Aimé Leon Dore drops going down over 2021, the heritage basketball shoe is looking to keep things rolling this year — and New Balance Japan recently added to that effort as well by dropping three brightly-colored makeups loaded with sporty style.
The first of these three colorways combines a rich green base with yellow accents for an Oakland Athletics-esque look. The second brings together navy blue and maize, shades reminiscent of the Michigan Wolverines. The third pair is arguably the loudest of the bunch, melding a bright red base with sport blue accents. All three also boast white N branding on the midfoot, a contrasting 550 graphic on the lateral forefoot and a large basketball badge on the tongue. White midsoles sit above colorful outsoles to complete each look.
All three of these sporty New Balance 550s are available now via the New Balance Japan webstore. The MSRP for each is set at ¥14,300 JPY (approximately $132 USD), inclusive of tax. A US release is likely to follow later this summer, but has yet to be confirmed by New Balance.
