Stuart Semple's 'LOVETONE' NFT Features Every Digital Color In Existence
Dubbed “the world’s most colorful color.”
British artist Stuart Semple has released a new NFT artwork called LOVETONE, composed of 16 million pixels representing every digital color in existence.
No two pixels in the digital piece are the same, resulting in what Semple is referring to as “the world’s most colorful color.” When zoomed out, the individual colors are made invisible to the naked eye, merging together into what looks like a grey square. But upon zooming in, LOVETONE‘s vibrant array of colorful tiles become visible.
The result is an entirely unique color never created before.
“Having produced digital work for decades, I’ve wondered what it would be like to see all the available colors in the RGB color space at the same time, yet it would take many lifetimes to mix 16 million colors in my studio, so without digital art it would be totally impossible to do,” Semple said. “I love the fact that it’s ended up being a color that you can’t see and, as an NFT, just one person will own it, yet in keeping with my work, everyone in the world will be able to see it for free and share it online.”

LOVETONE is available as a 1-of-1 NFT via auction on digital trading platform OpenSea. Bids close on April 25 at 12 p.m. PDT. The color is also available for viewing on BZR, an NFT gallery curated by the team behind 60 Second Docs.
Semple is passionate about the democratization of art, and has previously sold works on iTunes and eBay. The artist was engaged in a highly-publicized feud with artist Anish Kapoor over the latter’s exclusive rights to the Vantablack pigment — the blackest shade of black ever created. Semple hit back by creating the Pinkest Pink, a color-changing pigment called Phaze and a super black called Black 3.0. All are available for anyone to purchase — except Kapoor.
Last year, Semple collaborated with Museum Director Lee Cavaliere to construct the Virtual Online Museum of Art (VOMA), the world’s first fully-interactive virtual museum.
