Sigma Debuts Its 61-Megapixel Full-Frame Mirrorless Camera

Photography expert Sigma has unveiled what it calls the “world’s smallest and lightest single lens mirrorless camera.”

Despite an extremely compact form factor, the new fp L mirrorless camera packs a massive punch, holding a 61-megapixel full-frame sensor for detailed, high-resolution photography. The sensor is paired with the introduction of the company’s new hybrid phase-detect autofocus and “high precision” contrast autofocus, which it says will enable “smooth, fast and accurate autofocus” for both still images and video capture when following moving subjects.

As for its videography capabilities, the fp L will allow up to 8-bit 4K video recording at 30 fps internally, while an external recorder will push it up to either the same resolution in RAW or as 12-bit CinemaDNG files with the help of an SSD. Other features include true 24p video as opposed to 23.97 fps, DCI 4K (4,096 x 2,160) recording on the SSD, USB-C charging, and a “crop zoom” function which takes advantage of the 61 megapixels offered.

For those interested, Sigma’s fp L will be available in mid-April, with a price tag of $2,500 USD. The optional viewfinder will drop at the same time for $700 USD.
