Peter Miles Lends Plush Gradient Tones to OVERCOAT SS21
The artist’s cascading colors elevate a series of quietly sophisticated layering pieces.
One of those must-know New York labels, OVERCOAT is currently turning out its muted, thoughtful Spring/Summer 2021 collection. This understated affair is undercut by a sunny Peter Miles collaboration, yielding bold garments crafted in homage to hope as the seasons and, hopefully, global mood change.
Founder Ryuhei Oomaru’s thoughtful approach to patternmaking has made him an industry favorite, and that same acumen is well documented by his own brand and especially this artist partnership. Here, Miles has splashed colorful gradients across a series of OVERCOAT’s clever menswear silhouettes, yielding statement colors atop garments elevated by subtle twists.
Pieces range from a shirt-collared matte nylon overcoat to dropped-shoulder shirting to a series of packable hooded windbreakers cut with dolman sleeves, anchored by a variety of lightweight drawstring trousers and wide shorts. Anatomical pleats, relaxed shapes and high-end fabric — including a lush 150 denier cupro and “wooly nylon” ensure a premium feel.
Japanese retailers like DICEXDICE have already received a selection of the Peter Miles collaboration, with several other OVERCOAT stockists shortly receiving their own buys.
