Initially launching on Apple’s iOS only.

Disney World has decided to begin moving away from MagicBands, introducing a new app on smartphones that allow visitors to tap in and out of attractions and interact with the park in the same way.

Named Disney MobileMagic, the new service basically turns your smartphone into a MagicBand, and all you’ll have to do is register for it via the company’s My Disney Experience app. Initially, it’ll only be available on Apple’s iOS devices and the Apple Watch, but Android users can probably expect the feature to arrive sometime later.

Despite the new change in direction, fans of the original MagicBands don’t have to worry about losing them completely either. In its announcement, Disney has also reassured that MagicBands will still be around and usable, and to make them more fun, it’ll even be releasing them in new colors and designs featuring more of your favorite characters and stories. It’s also notable that since California’s Disneyland doesn’t use MagicBands at all, the new mobile features won’t be applicable there.
