The low-key Japanese label delivers a suitably slick remix of the retro sneaker.
As new colorways of the coveted 550 sneaker work their way to store shelves, minimalist Japanese label AURALEE is putting its own spin on the retro basketball silhouette. As usual, the Japanese brand has elevated the shoe with an understated colorway and premium materials, perfectly coinciding with its Fall/Winter 2021 collection, where the shoes made their first appearance.
Served in a classy tonal makeup, the exclusive 550s are realized with premium grain leather uppers, from the heel to the toe. A vintage yellow shade gives the midsole an appropriately antiquated feel, bolstered by a beige tone on the outsole that matches several panels near the heel. The leather sockliner is executed in matching shades, a muted appearance that both recalls AURALEE’s previous New Balance collaborations and neatly matches the pale garments introduced for the FW21 collection.
Though AURALEE is extremely proactive in delivering its seasonal goods ahead of the usual launch calendar, its up to New Balance to fulfill the launch of these collaborative sneakers. AURALEE FW21 will begin hitting stockists by late summer, these shoes are likely to launch around the same time but could possibly debut even earlier, as the footwear brand sees fit.
