Nike Revives the Free Run Trail With a Pineapple-Inspired Theme
The early 2000s runner makes its glorious return with vibrant accents and cork insoles.
Prior to the age of high-tech runners such as the AlphaFly NEXT% and VaporFly NEXT%, Nike and its extensive range of Free Run models were among the most popular of silhouettes during the early 2000s. And quite surprisingly, it appears as though the Beaverton-located imprint will be bringing new life to one of these models this year with the revival of the Nike Free Run Trail.
The lightweight, barefoot-simulating offering has resurfaced into our midst, this time taking on a playful “Happy Pineapple” theme. A tropical “Coconut Milk” tone is in charge of coloring in the base layer’s outer suede shell. Concealed underneath is a “Lime Glow” mesh layer, that of which is visible through the aforementioned suede’s ventilated holes punched out on the lateral and medial walls. This extra-vibrant tone is also utilized for the Swooshes, heel paneling, sock liners and lace loops. Its fruity moniker is communicated through the cartoon-like pineapple character that is embroidered into the tongues. Moreover, the footbeds are made up of cork material, and comes dressed up with retro Nike pinwheel logos.
Downstairs, the extra-flexible sole units are given a light tan background and come packaged with trail-ready textures.
