Tom Holland Suffers From PTSD and Addiction in Full Trailer for 'Cherry'
The Russo Brothers film premieres March 2021 on Apple TV+.
Apple TV+ has shared the full trailer for the Russo Brothers and Tom Holland‘s upcoming film, Cherry.
Based on the semi-autobiographical debut novel of Nico Walker, Holland stars as the titular character, an Army medic who suffers from undiagnosed PTSD upon his return to civilian life. Cherry becomes addicted to opioids and in order to fund his addiction, he begins robbing banks in Cleveland with his partner Emily (Ciara Bravo).
In a recent interview, Joe and Anthony Russo revealed that the film will span Cherry’s 15-year life cycle and divided into chapters that are connected. “But there’s a gonzo element to it… there’s magical realism in one chapter and then absurdism and then brutal realism and then horror and then dark humor, so it really covers a wide scope of experience both for the character and for the audience,” they said. “Each chapter we made very distinct cinematic choices from costume to performance to lenses to the style of camerawork to the way the camera moves to music. It’s hopefully not a jarring shift for the audience, but it does move and take you places that you’re not expecting from chapter to chapter. And when you put it all together as a whole, hopefully you get a surprising and unique moviegoing experience.”
