SNK Announces 'Samurai Showdown' Will be Coming to Xbox Series X and S
Featuring three new fighters.
SNK has just announced that it will be releasing a version of Samurai Shodown that will be playable on Microsoft’s Xbox Series X and S. Known in Japan as Samurai Spirits, SNK first introduced the title in 1993 and has since become a popular mainstay as the company continued to develop iterations over the past two decades.
The fighting game takes place in the 18th-century, during Japan’s Sakoku Period, and follows characters that are loosely based on real-life figures in Japanese history. Developed using Unreal Engine 4, one of SNK’s game engines, the game allows up to 10 players to join in on multiplayer mode online and features Japanese audio with subtitles that range from English to Chinese to Italian. Samurai Shodown will follow the events of the original game while preceding those of Samurai Shodown V, and three new fighters will be introduced: Wu-Ruixiang, Darli Dagger, and Yashamaru Kurama. These characters will be joining characters from older games, like Hanzo Hattori, Jubei Yagyu, Ukyo Tachibana, Haōmaru, Nakoruru, Earthquake, Tam Tam, Shiki, Genjuro Kibagami and Kyoshiro Senryo, to mention a few. Moreover, like other games in the franchise, most of the characters in the upcoming game will only speak in Japanese to stay faithful to the game’s original Japanese setting.
SNK’s upcoming Samurai Shodown for Microsoft Xbox Series X and S will be available on March 16 on SNK’s website — prices have yet to be revealed.
