Advanced Shapes Define Onitsuka Tiger's SS21 Footwear Lineup
Chunky sneakers and sandals inspired by sailing motifs.

Onitsuka Tiger continues to develop its in-line sneakers for Spring/Summer 2021, building off the adventurous silhouettes that debuted for Fall/Winter 2020 with some tweaked takes on vintage styles. Overseen by creative director Andrea Pompilio, the latest range include old-school runners updated with new sole units, plus a plethora of chunky sandals.
Realized under the mantra of “The Onitsuka Tiger Attitude,” SS21 channels disparate themes into a cohesive assortment of apparel, accessories and footwear inspired by the sails of ships. This ethos aids in realizing the vivid color palette — striking oranges, blues and golds united by neutral tan and white shades — as well as the study nylon textiles and flashy stitching that appear throughout. This ideology primarily inspires the accompanying wearables and bags, but the footwear also takes cues from the seafaring theme without disregarding Onitsuka Tiger’s sporty heritage.
Therein appear new models like the “Acromount,” a model that updates an archival ’70s shape with mixed materials like the aforementioned nylon and leather. The “Tai-Chi-Reb Sock MT” is a tall sock sneaker indebted to the low-profile footwear worn by tai-chi practitioners, while the “Dentigre MX” updates the chunky “Deintigre,” itself a remix of an older makeup. Finally the aforementioned sandal styles include a set of monochrome strappy designs that channel classic outdoor taste atop a weighty sole unit, further combining elements of yesteryear with today.
Expect the SS21 items to hit Onitsuka Tiger’s website in the near future.
Recently, Onitsuka Tiger’s parent company, ASICS, introduced a pair of clean GEL-Lyte III shoes.
