The Air Jordan 1 "Royal" Is Back ... Sort Of

It’s actually an Air Jordan 1 Mid and it’s called the “Hyper Royal,” but there are a good amount of similarities.

“The mid is selling” is an adage that wasn’t originally used in reference to sneakers, but in the case of Jordan Brand‘s Air Jordan 1 Mid it’s a perfect fit. Once an unsexy middle-of-the-mall staple, the Mid has exploded in popularity in recent years — thanks in large part to the omnipotence of its proverbial “big brother,” the high-top Air Jordan 1 — and has even begun to offer remixes of OG colorways like this new “Hyper Royal” makeup. A partially altered take on the OG Air Jordan 1 “Royal,” the “Hyper Royal” packs much of the original pair’s flair into its build, but differentiates itself with a few tweaks.

Uppers are constructed of leathers both tumbled and smooth, with royal blue appearing on toeboxes, eyestays, Swooshes, heels and collar flaps to contrast the black mudguards, quarters and collars. Almost all of this color placement is true to the original “Royal,” save for the noticeable black-to-blue switch on the eyestays. Black nylon tongues serve up a Jumpman logo instead of an OG Nike Air hit as well, but the original ball-and-wings logo retains its place on the lateral collar flap. Down below, white midsoles and black outsoles — a flip from the blue outsoles used on the “Royal” — complete the look.

Interested parties will be able to purchase the Air Jordan 1 Mid “Hyper Royal” from the Nike webstore in the coming weeks. The MSRP is set at a standard $120 USD.
