NoCap Returns With New Visuals for "Overtime" and "Drown in My Styrofoam"
Following his ‘Steel Human’ mixtape from July.
Alabama rapper NoCap has hit his stride after his release from Mobile County Metro Jail at the end of last year. His second project The Hood Dictionary made a sizable impact and created enough buzz for subsequent Lil Uzi Vert and DaBaby features. This summer’s Steel Human was a testament to his emotionality and range. Today he returns with two new visuals for “Overtime” and “Drown in My Styrofoam.”
“When you listen to me, you can hear my pain. My music doesn’t sound like anybody else’s. I don’t ever want to be in a box. I’m creating my own wave. I’m hoping to change the game forever,” NoCap said of his latest efforts. The two tracks are infectiously smooth and with an earnestness and need to make up for lost time. “Overtime” was the second track on Steel Human and dabbles into the rap trope of all the hard work and late nights spent developing one’s artistic skillset. “Shootouts back-to-back in the hood, them bullets nameless/ And all them junkies want is a sheet, ain’t talkin’ blankets,” NoCap raps, his vocals dripped in autotune.
“Drown in My Styrofoam” is a minimalist acoustic guitar riff where the rapper laments a recent breakup. The opening lines are heartfelt yet enough to induce a chuckle from lost footwear. “You broke my heart into a million pieces/I left my Louboutins and all my Yeezys/ That ain’t nothing, I really hope you bleach ‘em.” NoCap legitimately belts out his grief at certain points on the track. There’s a surprising Andrew Luck reference too.
