Nike Japan to Open Multi-Colored Playground in Tokyo
Constructed with recycled Nike Grind Surfacing.
Nike Japan will be opening up a colorful playground in Tokyo for the public. Dubbed “TOKYO SPORT PLAYGROUND SPORT x ART,” the place will be one of a handful of public sports-friendly playgrounds within the city.
Featuring a running track that measures at approximately 280 meters, a multi-colored basketball court, a skatepark, a roundabout and open spaces where visitors can practice yoga or dance, the playground’s design was inspired by six of Nike Japan’s silhouettes: Cortez Track, Waffle Racer, ACG Adventure and Air Raid. Each section of the park is named after the aforementioned shoes, like Raid Court, SB DUNK SKATEPLAZA, and AIR MAX TERRACE, to mention a few. Furthermore, recycled Nike Grind Surfacing, a durable cushioning material made from used Nike shoes, was incorporated into the playground’s flooring to keep things eco-friendly.
Nike Japan’s “TOKYO SPORT PLAYGROUND SPORT x ART” will open on October 10 in Toyosu, Tokyo.
In case you missed it, Nike has reworked its Air Force 1 with sustainable Crater foam.
