First Trailer for Stephen King's 'The Stand' Shows Society After a Deadly Pandemic
Premiering December 2020.
CBS All Access has dropped off the first trailer for The Stand, an upcoming limited series based on the 1978 Stephen King novel of the same name.
The upcoming show boasts an impressive cast that includes the likes of Whoopi Goldberg, Alexander Skarsgård, Odessa Young, James Marsden, Amber Heard, Owen Teague and Nat Wolff. The Stand is set in a post-apocalyptic world after a weaponized strain of influenza kills nearly everyone on the planet, and the survivors fight a battle of good versus evil after they are split into two groups — one lead by 108-year-old Mother Abagail (Goldberg) and the other by Randall Flagg/The Dark Man (Skarsgård).
“During the two years we spent making The Stand, we all felt the responsibility of adapting what may be the most beloved work of one of the world’s most beloved storytellers, but none of us could have imagined that Stephen King’s 40-year-old masterpiece about a global pandemic would come to be so eerily relevant,” Benjamin Cavell, showrunner and executive producer, said. “We’re honored to tell this sprawling, epic story, including a new coda that Stephen King has wanted to add for decades. We’re so proud of this show and its attempt to find meaning and hope in the most uncertain of times. We can’t wait to share it with the world.”
