Jordan Brand‘s Air Jordan Reign is a somewhat startling combination of the Air Jordan 13 and Nike‘s VaporMax 2020 — and after debuting in a “Volt” colorway, it’s now back in “Ash.” Equal parts past and present — with a healthy dose of pieced-together ’00s bootleg flair to boot — the “Reign” is one of the more quizzical lifestyle releases in recent Jumpman memory.
On the “Ash,” quarter panels are presented in the AJ13’s signature quilted leather. Done up in white, these pieces encircle a red cat’s eye badge. Toeboxes and throats are covered entirely by an ash grey shroud, smooth in construction, rimmed with silver trim and secured by a black zipper on the medial side of the foot. Tongues are done in black and covered by shield-like pieces that crescendo well above the shoe’s hybrid assemblage, serving opaque fringes with red text branding.
Cushioning is provided by an up-to-date VaporMax sole, crystal clear in build from toe to heel. A touch of red is present under its rear half to add a dash of traditional Jordan Brand flair, and red insoles complete the look.
The Air Jordan Reign “Ash” will release via Nike SNKRS China on August 31. The MSRP is set at ¥1,499 CNY (approximately $217 USD).
