These Topps 2020 Project Baseball Cards Are Fetching Thousands of Dollars
Iconic rookie cards reimagined by 20 artists.
Earlier in the year,Topps launched its 2020 Project featuring 20 artists reimagining 20 iconic baseball rookie cards. From a 1954 Ted Williams card redesigned by Don C to a 1989 Ken Griffey Jr. card reinterpreted by Joshua vides, interested buyers are able to snap up all of the players featured in the ongoing project from one artist. Other participants include Ben Baller, Mister Cartoon, Sophia Chang and many others.
There are a number of ways you can collect the cards from the project. You can purchase a single card for $19.99 USD. The price will then decrease if you buy multiples and one card in the edition will randomly be a one of one gold frame card. Current listings on the secondary market for these gold framed cards include Matt Taylor’s Frank Thomas artwork starting at $4,500 USD and Keith Shore’s Don Mattingly piece at $8,000 USD. Topps is also selling silver framed Artist Proof cards, numbered to 20, priced at $299.00 USD. These variants sell out quick and have a high resale value.
Some artists and designers are also sharing different offers on their artist cards on social media. Mister Cartoon is purveying cards with his signature on the George Brett variant, Sophia Chang is including a bonus custom work with her Rickey Henderson signatures, and Ben Baller is randomly inserting a gold diamond No. 2 Derek Jeter chain alongside 10 on-card autographs for his offer.
