Wanton Pattern Clashing Informs NEEDLES' SS21 Lookbook
The Japanese label again channels ’70s flair and Victorian accents.
NEEDLES‘ seasonal styling is a well-documented blend of retro shapes and dramatic patterns and Spring/Summer 2021 is no different. The Japanese brand rarely highlights its collaborations or signature items in the lookbooks, aside from its classic tracksuits, instead preferring to celebrate a mélange of whimsical silhouettes and vintage-indebted garments.
As usual, NEEDLES’ penchant for heeled boots, bit loafers and chunky trainers informs the footwear selection, while the garments above are a shade more tailored than usual. Richly patterned jackets and matching slacks or shorts appear throughout, accompanied by neon ascot shirts, turtleneck tees and track pants in makeups as disparate as grey crushed velvet and flared navy polyester.
Statement outwear, like red peak lapel blazers, paisley-drenched tuxedo jackets, mixed-material varsities and single rider’s jackets starkly contrast with a disparate selection of pants that range from pleated slacks to the Japanese label’s immense H.D. Pant, rendered here in a striped lamé twill.
