Khruangbin Celebrates Beck's 50th Birthday With "No Distraction" Remix
Following the Houston, Texas band’s solid ‘Mordechai’ album.
Seven-time GRAMMY Award-winning artist Beck celebrated his 50th birthday in style today. In honor of the occasion, Houston, Texas trio Khruangbin offered up their collective take on his “No Distraction” song from his 2017 album Colors.
The project was initially planned to be an exclusive 7” vinyl release on Record Store Day, but due to the coronavirus and the celebration now being spread across three new dates, the collective decided it was best to release the song digitally on Beck’s half-century milestone. Khruangbin puts their original spin on “No Distraction” with a smooth funk-inspired instrumental backdrop full of clean, minimalist drum hits and soft, echoing backing vocals.
The surprise remix follows the band’s new record Mordechai released late last month. The critically-acclaimed 10-track project followed their collaborative Texas Sun EP alongside Leon Bridges. The band’s experimentation is on full display with Beck’s 2017 single mirroring their visual offerings like “Pelota”, “So We Won’t Forget” and “Time (You and I)”.
