Netflix Will Be Streamed in 4K HDR With macOS Big Sur
A crystal clear upgrade for Apple users of the streaming service.
macOS Big Sur will be providing Netflix with a crystal clear upgrade, allowing users to stream titles in 4K HDR.
According to reports, the 4K HDR update arrives with the new HEVC support in Apple’s Safari browser and will work with both Dolby Vision and HDR10, the two HDR streaming formats Netflix uses. The exciting Big Sur improvement, however, will be limited to Apple products that actually support HDR, such as MacBook Pro 2018 models and above, Mac mini 2018 models and above, the iMac Pro and the Mac Pro.
The upgrade further broadens Apple’s use of 4K outside of its own services, such as Apple TV’s 4K support of YouTube and AirPlay 2’s 4K stream from iOS devices to Big Sur.
OMG! Netflix on macOS Big Sur’s Safari browser just gave me 4K Stream with Dolby Vision on MacBook Pro! Earlier it was just 1080p with Dolby Vision. This is amazing. 😌 pic.twitter.com/afUQPeKisI
