Facebook Acquires Developer Behind 'God of War' Games and 'The Order: 1886'
Ready At Dawn will now focus on virtual reality games for Oculus.
Social media giant Facebook has announced its acquisition of Ready At Dawn, the video game developer behind some The Order: 1886, God of War: Chains of Olympus, and Lone Echo. Having already created four titles for Facebook’s Oculus over the past three years, the deal will see Ready At Dawn further channel its focus into games for the tech company’s virtual reality branch. Facebook also says that all staff members of the developer has been retained, and it will continue to run as an independently-operated studio from its offices in Irvine, California and Portland, Oregon with the added resources from the Oculus team.
“There are few higher compliments a developer can receive besides, “I dreamed about your game.”,” reads a statement from Oculus and Facebook. “Many of us experienced that very phenomenon with Lone Echo—our adventures with the main character Liv were so vivid and the shared empathy so strong, the connection felt real. Ready At Dawn Studios’ storytelling and innovation DNA were on full display in Lone Echo and set the standard for VR narrative adventure, showcasing how virtual reality offers players more immersive, memorable, and emotionally charged experiences.”
Ready At Dawn is currently working on Lone Echo II, but no official release date has been announced yet, so VR fans should definitely be on the lookout for more news to come.
Elsewhere in gaming, Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time has now been announced for both PS4 and Xbox One.
