Disney Pledges $5 Million USD to Nonprofit Organizations Supporting Social Justice
“It is critical that we stand together, speak out and do everything in our power to ensure that acts of racism and violence are never tolerated.”

The Walt Disney Co. has pledged $5 million USD in donations to nonprofit organizations that support social justice causes, as announced by the company on Wednesday. $2 million USD of the funds has already been allocated to the NAACP in order to help “further their longstanding work.”
“The killing of George Floyd has forced our nation to once again confront the long history of injustice that Black people in America have suffered, and it is critical that we stand together, speak out and do everything in our power to ensure that acts of racism and violence are never tolerated,” stated CEO Bob Chapek. “This $5 million pledge will continue to support the efforts of nonprofit organizations such as the NAACP that have worked tirelessly to ensure equality and justice.”
Disney is also making contributions through its Employee Matching Gifts program, which will allow staff to donate to eligible organizations that the company will then match. The company has also shifted some of its content across various platforms in order to shed light on the topic of race, including a recent ABC News primetime special — titled “America in Pain: What Comes Next?” — which is centered on the protests that have erupted since Floyd’s killing.
The remaining $3 million USD of the expected donations have not yet been disclosed, but further details from the company’s statement can be read in full on Disney’s website.
