Yohji Yamamoto Revives Flower-Clad Styles for SS96 Replica Collection
Faithfully reproduced to match their runway counterparts.

Continuing to highlight some of its most iconic collections, Yohji Yamamoto’s Replica line is bringing back key pieces from the famed designer’s Spring/Summer 1996 menswear collection. The range, dominated by vivid flower prints and embroidery, emphasized the designer’s love for the peony flower, phoenix flower, and sunflower. The runway show was a unique spectacle even for Yohji, who recruited a slew of teenage boys to flaunt the range. It was as if these young teenagers were wearing updated versions of their fathers’ wardrobes, floating in oversized, flower-clad garments that thematically played into Yohji’s love for androgynous-leaning styles.
Various pieces in the Yohji Yamamoto Replica SS96 capsule include four types of jackets, four pairs of trousers, and three shirts, all of which have been faithfully reproduced to match similar specifications as their runway counterparts of the late ‘90s. The jackets remain marked by lapels, pockets, and stiff collars, with the silhouette and length of each slightly altered to meet contemporary standards. Materials have equally been mirrored, utilizing rayon fibers and cotton textiles for the brunt of the capsule.
Take a detailed look at the Yohji Yamamoto Replica SS96 capsule above. All pieces will be available at the imprint’s Aoyama store in Tokyo on May 30 and will be priced between ¥44,000 JPY and 270,000 JPY (approximately $400 USD to $2,500 USD).
