slowthai Bashes His Haters in Surprise Single "ENEMY"
Cheekily addressing an encounter with a fan at the 2020 NME Awards.
Following the release of his critically-acclaimed debut album last year, Nothing Great About Britain, which went to earn him a nod for the 2019 Mercury Prize, Northhampton’s genre-bending slowthai has returned with a brand new single and video titled “ENEMY.” The track follows a feature for Gorillaz’ recent track “Momentary Bliss” as well as a cameo on Headie One & Fred Again..’s GANG mixtape.
On “ENEMY,” slowthai cheekily addresses his title (whether self-proclaimed or given) as an “enemy,” whereby he’s continued to build his image around often swept-under-the-rug topics through notoriously crude and outlandishly gritty bars. The track is most likely a direct response to his fight with a fan at 2020 NME Awards, which inevitably led to a slew of criticism towards the artist. “F*ck a fortune teller, I’m a force of nature/Have ups and downs like a elevator/I’m the instigator, you’re a non-disclosure/Piss tape and now I got a boner,” he raps on the first verse.
In the visual, slowthai can be seen in a similar manner to his 2017 music video for “T N Biscuits,” showcasing an up-close shot of slowthai as he continues to deliver his turbulent energy.
