RIMON Offers Beautiful Array of R&B and Neo-Soul On 'I Shine, U Shine' EP
The Amsterdam-based singer taps Denzel Curry and Darrell Cole.
Eritrean-born and Amsterdam-based singer-songwriter RIMON made some major waves when she dropped her debut EP BBYGIRL FOCU$ back in 2018, showcasing melancholic melodies while blending hip-hop and neo-soul to perfection. After some strong singles like “The Morning” and “Hypnotizing”, she returns with her latest six-track effort, I Shine, U Shine out today via ALLE$ Recordings/Empire.
RIMON brings some rather high-profile friends along for the ride this time too, tapping Denzel Curry for “Got My Back” and Darrell Cole for the title track. Both releases follow her mesmerizing “Out Of My Way” visual directed by Maky Margadis and Louis Lekien from earlier this year. I Shine, U Shine showcases a dynamic range of sounds, from the emotional electric guitar solos on “The Morning” to the soulful saxophone backing on the Denzel-assisted “Got My Back.”
“Erykah Badu, Amy Winehouse and Lauryn Hill have had major impacts on me musically, but I think my work is a mixture of all kinds of genres, influenced by many legends,” RIMON told HYPEBAE in an interview last year. “I hope [my audience] can relate —- feel less lonely, you know? Knowing we all go through sh*t in life. I hope it gives them power too. The power to overcome things, to grow and to learn.”
