A New 'Paper Mario' Game Is Coming to Nintendo Switch
‘Paper Mario: The Origami King’ is coming this summer.
Nintendo announced via Twitter that a new Paper Mario game is coming to the Switch this summer called Paper Mario: The Origami King. It will serve as the sixth game in the Paper Mario franchise and the first title in the RPG series to arrive on the home portable console.
The story is set to focus on saving Princess Peach from yet another castle, except this time Mario will be saving her from a new paper-based antagonist called King Olly. According to Nintendo, Olly’s mission is to “fold the entire world.” A new mechanic called “1000-Fold Arms” will allow Mario to extend his shape to explore, solve puzzles, and navigate his surroundings. It also appears there will be a team-up ability with allies throughout the story, including with Bowser, Mario’s longtime enemy.
In the footage below, we see gameplay in action, which appears to feature a ring-shaped arena that allows players to line up baddies to hit as many as possible in a single turn.
It was recently rumored that HD remakes of classic Mario games would be coming, alongside a new Paper Mario game. Although the company usually broadcasts Nintendo Directs for these sorts of announcements, Nintendo decided to drop the news online.
Paper Mario: The Origami King will arrive on the Nintendo Switch July 17.
