Following his Supporting Figures edition with Case Studyo, Brooklyn-based artist Jonathan Chapline now releases a series of Standing Bather sculptures. The latest edition takes inspiration from the archetypal bathing subject in Western art history.
“From ancient Greece to the European art movements of the 1920s and beyond, painters and sculptors have been inspired by the ritual of bathing and have presented their versions of a bather with a wide variety of objectives,” expressed Case Studyo. With this edition, “[Jonathan Chapline] deconstructs the figure in order to refract and rearrange the body, shining light to its essence and finding sensuality in construction.”
The artist incorporates the ubiquitous art history muse in his colorful, almost-abstract universe. The series is comprised of three fluorescent variants: yellow, pink, and blue. All works stand 12 inches tall and are encased in bespoke wooden packaging. An edition of 8 with four artist proofs are available for each option.
