After celebrating the one-year anniversary of his debut LP Painted with another remix of “Roll Some Mo,” the four-time GRAMMY Awards nominee Lucky Daye has tapped Babyface for a new track titled “Shoulda.” For his second celebratory offering, he samples Toni Braxton’s classic “Love Shoulda Brought You Home,” bringing a smooth, R&B-infused spin to the song.

The latest release details a relationship that has gone astray, with one partner wondering why the other has left them. “Said you wanted romance/Well I gave you a lot,” Daye sings over a stripped-back beat. “Said you wanted mountains, hills/I put you on top.” The legendary singer-songwriter Babyface offers a blend of vocal undertones on the record. “Love should have brought your ass home last night,” Daye continues. “You should have been with me, babe, holdin’ me tight.”

Earlier this year, Daye released the song “Fade Away” as part of The Photograph soundtrack, as well as his first remix for “Roll Some Mo” with Ty Dolla $ign and Wale. He hinted on Instagram that a new project — the first collection of songs since his Painted debut — will be dropping soon. In the meantime, check out his latest track, “Shoulda.”

In other music-related news, Freddie Gibbs has announced a new collaborative project with The Alchemist, called Alfredo, after sharing a new music video for “1985.”
