The Flatbush Zombies have been delivering their brand of hyper-psychedelic, third-eye-opening hip-hop for over a decade. Now the trio comprised of childhood friends Zombie Juice, Erick “The Architect” Elliot and Meechy Darko are back for “iamlegend” from their upcoming Now, More Than Ever project, as if to proclaim now, more than ever, the world needs their new release. And they’d be correct. The music video is a solid dose of coronavirus quarantine paranoia inspired by the Will Smith film with infrared cinematography created by director PTA HAITI 3000, editor Due Pinlac, and videographers Slick Jackson, Phillip T. Annand and Diamante Doret.

The Zombies branched off on their own trip during the New York Renaissance that saw Joey Bada$$‘s Pro Era crew, A$AP Mob, Action Bronson and The Underachievers all stake their claim as some of the most original voices coming out of Gotham in quite some time. Their longevity has been more than impressive, and just last year they formed the supergroup Beast Coast to remind everyone of Brooklyn’s formidable force in the rap landscape.

On “iamlegend”, Meechy’s furious rapid-fire flows are complimented by Zombie Juice’s half-whispered melodies on the chorus. Erick continues to showcase that he’s a producer of premium quality, experimenting with unique soundscapes that make the group such an original listen. There’s even some Heaven’s Gate imagery that Lil Uzi Vert would be proud of.

Now, More Than Ever is slated to release June 5 and spans six new tracks following the group’s last full-length Vacation In Hell from 2018. According to a recently released press release, the upcoming EP “features some of the most introspective and personal writing by the trio to date, touching on a harrowing couple of years in which each member of the group lost primary parental figures in their lives.”
