Westerman Shares New Single "Waiting on Design"
His debut album releases in June.
West London singer-songwriter Westerman debuts another new track from his forthcoming studio album Your Hero Is Not Dead, out June 5 via Partisan and Play It Again Sam, with “Waiting on Design.”
The song follows his melancholic “Think I’ll Stay” single from March and “Blue Comanche” from January, a somber song that dealt with “the inevitability of environmental loss as a consequence of modernization.” It was the artist’s first release in over a year.
With “Waiting on Design,” Westerman finds his perfect balance. He alternates lengthy atmospheric instrumental phases full of underlying synths ready to break-out with minimalist lyrics centered around the end of a relationship. “Come back/ Maybe we should stay for/ One more drop of something/ I love to watch that nothing come/ Iʼm waiting on design/ Picturing you moving on,” he croons.
“I was thinking about the absurdity of the self, and how nobody wants to look at themselves from the perspective of the people they hurt,” Westerman said of “Waiting on Design” in a recent press release. “What’s interesting to me about storytelling isn’t necessarily the stories themselves, but the mutual connection that comes from people’s understanding of what’s being conjured by that story.”
The “Waiting on Design” visualizer features artwork and animation by Bráulio Amado. Your Hero Is Not Dead was crafted alongside close friend Nathan Jenkins, frequently known as artist Bullion as the two artists weave through existential crisis, morality and experiment with sonics ranging from electronic, synth-based pop and soft rock.
