'Princess Mononoke' Soundtrack to Receive First Ever Vinyl Release
The Joe Hisaishi work will be divided into three parts.
The soundtrack of Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli‘s Princess Mononoke is coming to vinyl for the first time since its 1997 release.
According to reports, the Joe Hisaishi’s score will see a three-part release — Princess Mononoke (Symphonic Suite) recorded with the Czech Philharmonic in 1998, Princess Mononoke (Soundtrack) with the Tokyo City Philharmonic Orchestra and the main theme song with vocals by Yoshikazu Mera and Princess Mononoke (Image Album), a project recorded prior to the official soundtrack that’s based on the notes of Miyazaki. “Image albums” are LPs specially recorded for Japanese animations in order to “give a sense of characters’ personalities.”
Hisaishi also scored other Miyazaki titles like Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, Castle in the Sky, My Neighbor Totoro, Kiki’s Delivery Service, Porco Rosso, Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle, Ponyo and The Wind Rises.
All three titles are scheduled to release on July 24 with pre-orders available now on Norman Records.
