Nike SB GTS Return Has Air Max 1-Inspired "Sport Royal" Colorway
SB and Nike Sportswear link up again.
Nike SB frequently pulls its colorway inspiration from other Nike branches, and the latest product of those inclusive efforts is the SB GTS Return in “Sport Royal.” Taking its palette — and a lion’s share of its materials — from the OG Air Max 1 “Sport Royal,” this low-cut skate shoe is a clever homage to a Nike Sportswear classic.
Although the overall shape may be different, the upper’s ethos is undeniably Air Max 1. Recognizable tan midfoot overlays plus blue suede mudguards and heel pieces sit atop a white mesh base, with blue leather Swooshes bringing dashing style. More branded embellishments are present on the printed tongue tag and embroidered heel, while white midsoles add embossed tonal Nike SB hits. Down below, a black cupsole with skate-specific traction patterns completes the look.
Of course, this isn’t the SB GTS Return’s first go-around with homage styles. In months past, it’s appeared in a “Sport Red” makeup clearly inspired by the original Air Max 1 “University Red,” and even a leather “Safari” iteration, drawing from the OG Air Safari — another Tinker Hatfield-designed classic.
