Even with such significant influence in fashion, Martin Margiela‘s face still remains anonymous. The elusive designer has been rejecting publicity since he started his label, quite a marvel for someone who’s continued to reinvent fashion with his 41 collections over the last 20 years. But the designer has finally decided to show a more personal look at his work in a revealing full-length documentary.
As the film’s title suggests, Martin Margiela: In His Own Words offers a rare peek at the designer’s inspirations and vision via self-commentary. Though the film has yet to be officially distributed, the trailer offers a good glimpse of what we can expect. Reiner Holzemer wrote and directed the film, where he managed to get Martin to open up about his anonymity and his desire to continue his legacy. Apart from the man, other big names will be featured, too, like Jean Paul Gaultier and Carine Roitfeld, as well as other industry professionals like fashion critic Cathy Horyn and fashion historian Olivier Saillard.
