Johnny Marr Offers Virtual Guitar Lesson
For The Smiths’ 1985 track “The Headmaster Ritual.”
Johnny Marr has offered up a virtual guitar lesson on The Smiths‘ 1985 track “The Headmster Ritual” from Meat Is Murder.
The lesson was uploaded on YouTube as part of Fender’s “Artist Check-In” series. It’s a livestream tutorial where the guitar legend gave a step-by-step break down of the song, compartmentalizing each part of the track for viewers. The video measures at just eight minutes and sees Marr using his signature electric Jaguar that’s been treated with a custom sparkle gloss. During the video, Marr offered some facts on the origins of the song, like how he first wrote it in open E tuning: “I had no idea what I was doing when I wrote it, and I quite like that.” Streamed straight from the comforts of his home studio, Marr ends the video with a short message: “Have fun, hope you can enjoy yourself playing during this time.”
